What is Reiki?
Reiki is a gentle, non-invasive healing practice that originated in Japan in the early 20th century. It was developed by Dr. Mikao Usui, who explored ways to support balance and wellbeing through a natural, hands-on healing method.
The word Reiki comes from two Japanese words:
Rei, meaning universal or greater wisdom, and Ki, meaning life force or vital energy — the same life energy recognised in many cultures (often referred to as Qi or Prana).
Reiki & the Body
The human body is an electrical and energetic system. Our nervous system, heart and brain communicate through electrical impulses, creating measurable electromagnetic fields around and within the body.
Modern science recognises that when we experience prolonged stress, trauma or overwhelm, the nervous system can become dysregulated. This can impact how we feel physically, emotionally and mentally.
Reiki works by encouraging the body into a deeply relaxed, regulated state — the state in which rest, repair and emotional processing are most accessible.
How Reiki is Received
During a Reiki session, I place my hands gently on or just above different areas of the body, always working with consent. Reiki does not involve pressure, manipulation or force.
Rather than “doing” something to you, Reiki supports your system to settle, soften and rebalance. You may experience deep relaxation, warmth, subtle sensations, emotional release or a meditative state — or you may simply rest. Every experience is different.
A Gentle, Supportive Process
Modern life places continuous demands on our nervous systems — through stress, trauma, technology, lack of rest, limited time in nature and emotional pressure. Over time, this can leave us feeling depleted, disconnected or overwhelmed.
Reiki offers space to pause and reconnect. It supports the release of what no longer serves you — not by force, but by allowing the body to feel safe enough to let go.
By the end of a session, many people describe feeling calmer, clearer, lighter or more grounded — with a renewed sense of connection to themselves.
✨ Reiki doesn’t give you anything you don’t already have. It simply helps you reconnect with the light and balance within you.
